زبان، طبیعت و قانون در فلسفۀ افلاطون (رابطۀ نام‌ها و چیزها در کراتیلوس و ارتباط آن با مسألۀ قانون و طبیعت)

چکیده

نسبت میان نام‌ها و چیزها که در کراتیلوس مطرح می‌شود، از فروع مسأله‌ای عام‌تر دربارۀ قانون و طبیعت است که بسیاری از مسائل فلسفۀ یونانی از آن سرچشمه گرفته است. مسأله این است که آیا قوانین بشری ریشه در طبیعت و ذات امور دارد یا صرفاً قراردادی میان افراد است. فیلسوفانی که قوانین را مطلق و ناگزیر می‌دانستند، به مطابقت قانون و طبیعت معتقد بودند و مخالفان ایشان که چنین مطابقتی میان قانون و طبیعت نمی‌دیدند، قوانین را صرفاً توافقی میان افراد، و لذا کاملاً نسبی می‌دانستند.  فوسیس به معنای عالم اعیان و ذات اشیاء و امور است، و نوموس شامل قانون و عرف و اعتقادات و مقدسات و بسیاری از امور انسانی است. در تفکر یونانی نام‌ها از جمله مصادیق نوموس به شمار می‌روند و تبعاً مباحث مربوط به نوموس، از جمله نسبت آن با فوسیس، در مورد نام‌ها نیز مصداق دارد. مسألۀ فوسیس و نوموس در مورد نام‌ها به صورت این پرسش مطرح می‌شود که آیا نام‌ها طبیعی هستند یا قراردادی؟ این همان پرسش اصلی کراتیلوس است: آیا ارتباطی ضروری میان نام و نامیده وجود دارد یا اطلاق نام‌ها بر چیزها صرفاً مبتنی بر توافق است؟ در این مقاله استدلال می‌شود که پاسخ افلاطون به هر دو پرسش (پرسش از رابطۀ فوسیس و نوموس و پرسش از رابطۀ نام‌ها و چیزها) یکی است و او در هر دو مورد راه حلی میانه یافته که پیش از او سابقه نداشته است.

چکیده [English]

The question concerning names and things discussed in Cratylus, repeats the old and fundamental philosophical subject of "phusis" and "nomos"; an essential issue which may be considered as the ground for many theories in Greek philosophy. The question In Cratylus is how relates a name (ονομα) to its object or thing (πραγμα) to which the name refers. Are names by nature, i.e. is there any necessary relation between a name and its object (φυσει), or as long as there is a convention, an object could be called by any name (θεσει). According to Socrates the true nature of anything is tobe found in its idea and not in its perishable material form. Thus the naturally correct name is that which imitates the idea and reveals it.
