Abstract

Textual and linguistic considerations show the semantic and structural systems of the translated text. On the other hand, the interaction or non-interaction of the textual signs of the source language and the target language can challenge the meaning transfer process. The present article originates from the thought of Paul Ricoeur about the philosophy of translation. Ricoeur is one of the French philosophers of the 20th century, whose thinking had a significant impact on the human sciences. Identifying the complex relationships between translation and hermeneutics and the importance of knowledge prior to the text as a necessary background in the translation process answers many ambiguities in the field of text and translation. Referring to linguistic and cultural diversity, Ricoeur proposes the concept of "linguistic hospitality" as an ethical approach to translation that will lead to mutual understanding and acceptance of differences between languages and cultures. He pointed out the ethical and philosophical challenges faced by the translator and believes that no translation can be completely equivalent to the source text. In addition, Ricoeur mentions the concept of "mourning" in translation, which means letting go of some linguistic concepts and structures. In this regard, the article deals with the basic questions of whether translation is possible or impossible. And how to face ethical and philosophical challenges in the translation process? In this article, we intend to examine the linguistic, cultural and ethical dimensions of translation by relying on Ricoeur's opinions and show how the translation process can become a model for interpretation and help to create solidarity between people.
