Abstract

This study aims to structurally model the relationship between religiosity and political participation, with the mediating role of philosophical mentality, among student-teachers at Farhangian University in East Azerbaijan Province. The research is applied in terms of purpose and employs a descriptive-correlational method using structural equation modeling. The statistical population includes all undergraduate student-teachers at Farhangian University in East Azerbaijan Province during the 2024-2025 academic year. To determine the sample size, structural equation modeling principles were applied, and 290 students were selected using stratified random sampling. The data collection tools included Safdel's Religiosity Questionnaire (2014) with 18 items, the Smith's Philosophical Mentality Questionnaire with 42 items (Soltani, 2008), and Farajzadeh's Political Participation Questionnaire (2014) with 26 items, all rated on a Likert scale from excellent (5) to weak (1). Data analysis was conducted using SPSS and AMOS software. The findings indicate a moderate to relatively strong influence of religiosity on both philosophical mentality and political participation. The combination of philosophical mentality and religiosity can contribute to more multidimensional and enriched perspectives on life and the world. Additionally, students with strong religious beliefs tend to prioritize values such as justice and social responsibility, which may encourage them to engage in political activities. The results of this study can contribute to enhancing political and social optimism, national cohesion, meritocracy, and sustainable development. Furthermore, they provide guidance for policymakers and educational administrators at Farhangian University in designing educational policies and strategies.
