Truth, Symbolism, and Interpretation in Light of Digital Arts: A Philosophical Reading of Heidegger, Cassirer, and Gadamer

Abstract

This article presents a deep philosophical analysis of the concept of “artistic truth” through the ideas of three major contemporary philosophers: Martin Heidegger, Hans-Georg Gadamer, and Ernst Cassirer. It explores the relationship between philosophy and art by examining key concepts such as being, symbolism, and interpretation, which are central to the thought of these philosophers. According to Heidegger, art is an ontological event. It reveals human existence and its truth indirectly, through a process of unveiling and concealment. Cassirer, on the other hand, sees art as a form of symbolic knowledge. Through symbols, art helps humans understand the world. Gadamer views art as a dynamic interpretive process, where meaning is constantly reshaped through the interaction between the viewer and the artwork, shaped by historical context and personal experience.

The article also discusses how digital and interactive arts reshape questions of being and meaning in today’s technological world. It focuses on how these new forms of art change the relationship between humans and existence through modern tools like artificial intelligence and interactive media. The study offers a critical reading and new proposals from the author’s perspective. She argues that digital art creates a new ontological and interpretive horizon, one that redefines the human relationship with truth in the digital age. The study concludes by stressing the need to rethink how philosophy engages with these new transformations. It also recommends future research on the philosophy of art in the digital era and how traditional philosophical frameworks can interact with contemporary art.
