The Panchatantra is one of the most influential works of Indian wisdom literature, offering ethical guidance through a collection of interconnected animal fables. This paper examines the concepts of virtue and prudence in the Panchatantra and explores their role in shaping practical ethics. Drawing upon selected narratives, the study analyzes key virtues such as friendship, loyalty, courage, self-control, justice, and fairness, demonstrating how they contribute to moral development and social harmony. Particular emphasis is placed on prudence as a form of practical wisdom that enables individuals to navigate complex social and political situations. The paper further compares the ethical framework of the Panchatantra with Aristotelian virtue ethics, highlighting similarities in character formation and practical reasoning while noting important differences in ethical orientation. The study concludes that the Panchatantra remains highly relevant for contemporary discussions of leadership, moral education, and ethical decision-making, offering timeless insights into the relationship between character and wise action.
